NEW YORK CONDO Jana Leo and Simon Lund is a visual book and test.
An assessment of the way we live in the XXI century. Or in other words, the house, the floor or block speaks volumes about the meaning of life in the city.

The project documents a specific case study, the drastic transformation of the city of New York that is given with a new type of block houses, condominium. Universally, many of the theories about love, architecture and forms of ownership can be applied to any city. Actually speaking of community life in the city and its various connotations: Utopia, marginality and luxury. Photographic document is done by Simon Lund and theoretical text by Jana Leo.

historical level, discussed as the ideal home in the U.S. housing-single family residential periphery or "suburbia" - is now spreading to the apartment, condominium and how the idea of freedom has gone from being associated with the "unity" to be a "withdrawal." The emphasis is no longer in a group of people, under one roof, the family, but in a couple paragraphs but also around the world. The periphery of the residential housing requires long hours of travel and time and effort to maintain. The dwelling unit, which was the minimum cell community, full of activities, it now appears as a burden. The new residential buildings, condominiums are advertised with the image of a couples idle: idle people pose, sitting in front of a drink or reclining on a sofa rather than rest seem to have left the real world.

In the seventies, freedom is manifested in the relationship with others and participation in the world. In love and sex to be part of another is not only the other was the ultimate expression of freedom and civilization. Now freedom is manifested through the lack of commitment, love is still there, but understood in economic terms, possession and worship, love is a commodity that some use to measure their success.

For a home is a house, must be easy to leave and return to it. If the house trying to give strength to a person, providing both the freedom and the roots and not only images of the same, then the rules in the construction and sale would give priority to the values of connection and freedom on earnings. On a practical level, if the house is considered a true dream car would not be treated like any other product regulated only by market forces. The house is actually a product of priority in the economy, for construction, for those who buy as an investment and real estate agents.
