surprising that the remote village of Vals Switzerland count on a pilgrimage of tourists from around the world to enjoy, even for a single day, a swim in a quiet pools stone.
The spa designed by Peter Zumthor have managed to locate this Alpine town thousand people in the world map.









Swiss architect Christian Müller, born in a village near Vals, knew the place and decided in 2006 together with the Dutch architect Bjarne Mastenbroek SEARCH study, buy a plot adjacent to the hot springs to build a vacation home.
When asked how to intervene in the precious place without breaking into the sights of the placid swimmers, they responded dramatically: they had to build the house inside the mountain, leaving it to peep through a large hole cut into the hillside offering light, ventilation and an extraordinary panorama of all the rooms.








Access is through an old barn, typical of the canton of Grisons, near the street and restored to function as a lobby and a cloakroom. From here take a winding tunnel 22 meters long, lit by two skylights, which finally lead to stairs inside the house.

addition to energy savings is to take the thermal inertia of the land, the house does not use fossil fuels but is supplied with renewable energy. It also has a device for recovering heat generated in the home, is equipped with underfloor heating and have triple glazing on all windows.
