The new protective cover for the archaeological finds was conceived as a kind of abstract reconstruction of the Romans volumes: a lightweight frame walls, made of wood lamella that admits light and air, just follow the Roman walls outside, thus producing an effect similar to a package that gives a visible form to the position of the Roman buildings in the city landscape today. The spaces within the shell interior refer to Roman ruins.
Peter Zumthor created a new space on the ruins surrounding them in a wooden mask and forcing the person to walk over a footbridge that they have different access point in the enclosed spaces by ancient stone walls. Thus arises an ambiguity of feelings almost levitating and walking through the ruins among them only by a small rise in just over 2 meters if it arrives.
But how things can be projected with such presence, beautiful and natural things that touch me again and again? asked the architect, and the answer lies in the concept of atmosphere.

emergency staircase Palazzo della Ragione in Milan
After some restoration work in the Palazzo della Regione in Piazza Mercanti in the 1980 capacity of the old "Salon" is today used for exhibitions, increased and the old entrance overlooking the Piazza Duomo reopened. Given the increasing number of visitors to the building, fire regulations dictated the construction of a fire escape. The ladder construcciónde Fire was completed in 2002. The key qualities necessary for the design of the staircase were the maximum visual clarity and ultra-light construction. They should also have their own identity within a historical framework
The main column that makes up the supporting structure of the ladder consists of two sections of folded sheet steel that tapers upward to the top , where they meet. These supports are interconnected through a complex system of nodes and bars. The axis of the column is tilted at an angle of 12.7% from the apex, and vertical twisted at an angle of 25 º The façade of the building .. The base point of the column is anchored to the foundation through a slab, on top, to prevent a fall, the structure of the ladder is tied to the wall of the building. At the junction of the main column, to 11.50 meters above the ground, the structure is divided into three "fingers." stainless steel rod 32 mm in diameter, which would give stability to the whole structure. The structural framework of the steps is also suspended from these bars.

At the bottom of the stairs end at the level of the arches, at a height of 1.06 m above the street. From here
steps solves a drop of 8.22 meters, a length 26.50m thrust, with a total of 49 steps. All steps flying from a simple steel section, continuous and steel, the rungs are welded to this section. In order to support the loads of torque, this support was designed as a box girder with walls of 15 mm and 20 mm thick.
