emergency staircase Palazzo della Ragione in Milan
After some restoration work in the Palazzo della Regione in Piazza Mercanti in the 1980 capacity of the old "Salon" is today used for exhibitions, increased and the old entrance overlooking the Piazza Duomo reopened. Given the increasing number of visitors to the building, fire regulations dictated the construction of a fire escape. The ladder construcciónde Fire was completed in 2002. The key qualities necessary for the design of the staircase were the maximum visual clarity and ultra-light construction. They should also have their own identity within a historical framework
The main column that makes up the supporting structure of the ladder consists of two sections of folded sheet steel that tapers upward to the top , where they meet. These supports are interconnected through a complex system of nodes and bars. The axis of the column is tilted at an angle of 12.7% from the apex, and vertical twisted at an angle of 25 º The façade of the building .. The base point of the column is anchored to the foundation through a slab, on top, to prevent a fall, the structure of the ladder is tied to the wall of the building. At the junction of the main column, to 11.50 meters above the ground, the structure is divided into three "fingers." stainless steel rod 32 mm in diameter, which would give stability to the whole structure. The structural framework of the steps is also suspended from these bars.

In order to support the loads of torque, this support was designed as a box girder with walls of 15 mm and 20 mm thick.

dead weight of about 430kg / m, and the loads are transmitted through the column landings and hangers. Fixed support points at the beginning and end of the ladder also play a role in load transmission. Each set consists of 116 panels in the form of 10 mm thick glass, threaded on three prestressed steel rods to create a monolithic structure. Jakob + Mac Farlane
